Lead Me to the Cross

Here's another new song from United.. its on their myspace if you want to have a listen to the full version. I like how they move from singing about leading us to the cross in the choruses, to leading us to God's heart in the bridge, which to me talks about a move from salvation and repentance as young Christians to loving others and evangelism as we develop spiritually.. something to think about.

The short instrumental is pretty straightforward, while the rest of the song doesn't have any obvious guitar parts. Here, I've plucked open chords with a tremolo effect for the verse, to create some kind of synth-ish background sound. I used the 'chords on the first three strings' idea I posted about previously (see electric --> theory & techniques) for the chorus.

You can use hammer-ons instead of picking for certain notes as well.Use vibratos generously as well.

Chords:
Bm A G D (x2)

Verse
Pluck open chords, use sus, 7ths, etc. chords as well, with a tremolo effect, and some slight delay. This is particularly useful for most slow songs, as I find that electric guitarists tend to get quite lost for such songs.

Chords:
Bm A Em D A (x2)
Em A Bm A G

Chorus
Slide the D chord 5 and 7 frets up the fretboard to get the G and A chords respectively. I play a G for the Em7 chord as well.

Chords:
G D A Asus4 (x3)
Em7 G A Bm

On Bm, play

hey kenny, i just downloaded your pod xt live bundle. for this song, which channel do you use?

I can't remember, but you can try 1C, 2A, 2B.. it depends on how much distortion you would like to use.

By the way, the above is for the first part.. I used 2C for the verse, and 2C + turned on the Stomp for the chorus.

Hi Guys.

When I play 'lead me to the cross' I use a different chord shape in the Chorus

E---10---9--
B---10---10
G---9----9--

I play a Dsus shape on fret 9 and the play a D Shape chord in the same place.

Each shape is played for one bar each (4 counts) except last two chords

E.g.

Dsus (4 counts), D (4 counts), Dsus (4 counts), D (4 counts) Dsus (4 counts), D (4 counts), Dsus (6 counts, D (2 counts).

Hope this Helps, Josh
