Practicing & Composing with a Loop Pedal

Just bought a loop pedal.. its a pedal that loops anything you've played, and often comes with some simple drum tracks. Although it doesn't sound much, its a great way to practice riffs as you can change the tempo of your recording, and playback your guitaring. It's also a great way to compose riffs and songs, for example by trying out different riffs with chord progressions.

Check out this example, using a simple A E D E progression:

Here, i tried starting the song with a clean riff. I then built it up with some open chords, followed by some muted notes with delay. I added some distorted chords, and ended off with an improvised solo.

Hey Kenny,

I'm just curious about your effects chain here - are you putting your loop pedal after the PODxt, or before?

Also, have you found much of a use for this pedal in a live setting?

I put it after my Pod... this allows me to layer different patches...

not good for live setting.. tap tempo can never sync perfectly with the drummer..

That's what I thought. One more question, what are you using to send the signal into your computer after the loop station?

I got one a few days ago. After I recorded a part, with a clean sounding guitar, and I tryed to record a guitar with distortion, the first guitar also changed to distortion. Is there any way I could change the sound without changing the other sounds?

yup.. just put the pedal right at the end of your effects chain...

The thing is I have a vox amp, and i use the effects form the amp only, and if i decide to switch effects, even the drum beats also change, is kinda weird, and it sucks:( because i can't write any songs that i want to write.
