You Are God

By Jason

This is based on the video www.synclive.com - the Charlie Hall show, song 'You Are God'. Video covers the main riff for the intro and verse.

The chord progression the bassist is one bar each of G, Em, C, C. The rest of the band might be playing a couple of extra chords in between.

The riff goes like this:

G - one bar

---------------
----------5----
------5-7----7-
--3------------

Em - one bar
---------------
----------5----
--7---5-7----7-
---------------

C - two bars
------7-5---7--
----------7----
--3------------
---------------

...and thats it :) If you want to add a couple of fills, you can do it between beat 2-n and beat 4 of the last bar of C. An 8th note feel wld generally be more appropriate for this context.

Theory wise, this riff is built nicely on rounded chord tones of the G major pentatonic scale. (1-2-3-5-6-8)

Over the G, the notes in the riff are the 5th - 6th - 8th - 6th of the chord - all appropriate notes to play over a major chord.

Over the Em, the notes in the riff are the same, but serve a different function. You will be playing the b7 - R(oot) - b3 - R of the chord - appropriate notes to play over a minor 7th chord.

For the C, the notes are 2nd - R - 6th - R. Again, appropriate for a major chord.

Blessings :) remember "...The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart" 1 Sam 16:7b

hi bass levite, heh, nice gear maketh not good musicians or worshippers.. (though gear does have its place :p)

the model is a Tune Casipoea TWX62 bass.. designed by japanese bassists from Casipoea. American instruments are still a bit expensive for me.
