Hosanna

Here's another song from United's All of the Above. I haven't bought the cd yet, got this version from a youtube video from an official United account, check out the full live version here, and the usual video for the tabs here:

The video doesn't seem to sync with the audio well at certain portions, i strongly suspect that the recording speeds don't match or something (i'm using a cheap webcam + free software), but it's decent enough.

Dave generously put tabs, along with its corresponding scores (using proper music notation), in a pdf file... download it here.

Tabs
Add some delay (maybe the dotted 8th note one) for the clean parts.

i'm not sure but i hear a 9 more and it's the same without the 7 at the 2ºstring. i think it should be a 9 at 1º string.

i think it's just the delay

I thought there was something missing too but then I realized that its just the delay they use. Its a nice one. Does anyone know if they use the Boss DD-5 or 6 with the boss footswitch?

Michael Guy uses a Boss DD5 with a boss footswitch. You can also check oout "United Guitars" on myspace. They have nice stuff on. For example all the gear they use at Hillsong United

hey kenny, i was wondering if u could tell me what podxtl patch u use for hossana, and if u keep it the same through the whole song or switch to another patch during the solo or something. It would be greatly appreciated.

I used to use 2C, but these days i use 2B (cali crunch), but i lower the drive to about a little lower than 11o'clock, and use a stereo delay (same as the 2C delay). This is for the clean sound. For the distorted tone I retain the screamer, but turned up the drive to 40% to compensate for the lower drive on the amp.

After the chorus there's the sol and the rhyme guitar is playing the intro witch is C#m E F#m G#m then the bridge. :)

I love this song so much! I think it one of Hillsong united's best worship songs next to the stand. haha

What type of octaver did you use on the solo?

user said...

just the regular one in the pod xtl.

Anonymous said...

the octave fuzz? sorry to keep asking, but I haven't been able to get that kind of sound out of my xtl.

user said...

i think its the bender.. i can't remember right now either, but its one of the effects in the v3 update.. with the new wahs and all..

Anonymous said...

on the guitar fill what does the "b" mean? ty =)

Hey dudes, i used to use DD5 with a switch using tap time.. we have the count 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 alright... tap on 1 and 2 and 3 ... am i right? God bless

hey kenny, i think you left out a note in the intro:
-----------7-------------9------
-------5-----5------7------7----
-----6------------8-------------
-6s7-----7------9------9--------
--------------------------------
--------------------------------

i pretty sure it should be:
-----------7--------------9-----
-------5-----5-------7------7---
-----6-------------8------------
-6s7-----7-----7s9------9-------
--------------------------------
--------------------------------

Intro:
-----4-------4------------------
---5-----5h7---------4-------4--
-6-----6-----------4-----4h6----
-----------------6-----6--------
--------------------------------
--------------------------------

In the top line of the intro, on the cd, they play it like this instead:

-----4-------4------------------
---5-----5h7---------4-------4--
-6-----6-----------4------6-----
-----------------6-----6--------
--------------------------------
--------------------------------

same thing but without a hammer on the 4 group of notes. It's so subtle, but if you want it to be totally accurate...

Anonymous said...

hey kenny how come on the guitar fill it looks as though you dont' play the 13? I got the whole song down except for the guitar fill is it just basically bending the tabs and not the numbers after the b?

Anonymous said...

second verse is different from the first verse. during the second verse, right before the chorus it goes like this:

-------------------------------
----2----2----4-------4--------
--2----2----2---4---4---4---4--
4----4----4-------4-------4----
-------------------------------
-------------------------------

sweet, i made a contribution!

stephan said...

on the intro for the first part there is no hammer on at the 6th fret the first time you play that. it is there on the way down from the 7th fret. at least that is the way it is on the all of the above cd.

Anonymous said...

Before each part of the verse instead of those first three notes he posted it should be just harmonics on the 12 fret of the high E and B strings. its how its done in the recording

Correction on correction of post bridge

---------9--------------9--------11-------
------12---12--------9--9---9----9---9--
----9---------9----9-------9--------9-----
-11-------------11------------------------
--------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------

---------9-------------------11----11--12-
------12---12-------------9---9-----9-----
----9---------9-----9----9------9----------
-11-------------11---11--------------------
----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------
This is more correct in playing along with the recording exactly, imo.

is this in the key of E?

wat guitar do you have?

Anonymous said...

in the fill the 11b13 means you have your finger on the 11th fret and then bend it until it sounds the same as the 13th note...

That said, it hasn't able my apprehension that a amount of online writing are circulating the web afresh claiming to mark the 'death of the info '. These bloggers and journalists adduce the prevalence of cell-phones and iPods: accessories with congenital in agenda time-keepers that don't crave ambagious or even wearing.

Man, this site has blessed me at my church SO much. It's fantastic. We're not only checking out parts for songs etc, but going over the theory for the chords, how to play inversions, etc. SOOO AWESOME. God bless you.

Thanks so much for posting this.

I keep hitting the open G string accidentally in the chorus and it sounds awful. Better keep practicing...
