Salvation is Here (Bass)

By Bass Levite

[Kenny: the bass for Salvation is Here is very challenging, and thus there are some mistakes in the video. However, Bass Levite has taken the time and effort to help with the bass requests, so we ought to give him credit for that. If anyone has any suggestions on the tabs or video, kindly leave comments in a constructive way, thanks!]

Intro
(note that this tab is just a guideline and there might actually be more or less notes played on this fast picking section)
---------------------------
---------------------------
-s14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14s-
---------------------------

Pick the B note fast and then slide it down and mute it, as above. Then play this riff:
-------------16----16------
---------------------------
-14-14-14-14-14-14-14-14---
---------------------------

The Hillsong bassist hits a B note one octave higher but at the same time still plays the fast B note. This is actually extremely difficult to do.

The way I did it is to use my right first and second fingers to "run" the B note, and then use my right third finger to hit the B note one octave higher. I still couldn't do it as smoothly as the song.

So for the intro, you actually use 3 fingers on the right hand to play, making it very difficult to master.

Also, the pattern for the first and second finger is different to that of the third finger, and both are played simultaneously, making it even more harder.

Verse
Note that chords with * means that they're the higher octaved notes. Play these fast like the intro. You may also add some breaks in between the chords.

| B* G#m* | F#* E* |
| B* G#m* | F#* E* |
| B G#m | F# E |
| G#m | E* |

Chorus
| B | E | F# | G#m |
| B | E | C#m | E |
Nothing very fancy in the chorus. This allows your hands to rest!

Instrumental and bridge
This solo is hard because you need to pick them really fast and accurate at the same time. There are other bass tabs around the net for this of course. The tabs below are based on the anchor position using the 3rd finger on the 18th fret of the D string. All other notes are played around this anchor position to minimise movement. Learning riffs based on an anchor position is very useful because it allows transposition to another key easy (just move the anchor position and all other notes relative to that position remain the same).

Play these 4 times
-------------16-16-16-18-18-18-16-16-------16-16-
-18-18-18-18-------------------------18-18-------
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------18-18-16-16-------
-------------18-18-18-16-16-16-------------16-16-
-14-14-14-14-------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------

----------------------16-16-16-------16-16-------
-14-14-14-14-18-18-18----------18-18-------18-18-
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------

----------------------20-20-20-18-18-16-16-------
-------------18-18-18----------------------16-16-
-16-16-16-16-------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------

The second part of the solo is just basically the same, except played on a lower octave. The anchor position for the second part of the solo is the 11th fret on the A string.

-------------------------------------------------
-------------9-9-9-11-11-11-9-9-------9-9--------
-11-11-11-11--------------------11-11------------
-------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------
------------------------11-11-9-9----------------
---------11-11-11-9-9-9-----------9-9------------
-7-7-7-7-----------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------
------------------9-9-9-------9-9----------------
-7-7-7-7-11-11-11-------11-11-----11-11----------
-------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------
------------------13-13-13-11-11-9-9-------------
---------11-11-11--------------------9-9---------
-9-9-9-9-----------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------
-------------9-9-9-11-11-11-9-9-------9-9--------
-11-11-11-11--------------------11-11------------
-------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------
------------------------11-11-9-9----------------
---------11-11-11-9-9-9-----------9-9------------
-7-7-7-7-----------------------------------------

The riff slows down after this. I played this section differently to that of the original (more filling). The chords are:
| E | C#m |
| B | E | F# | G#m |
| B | E | F# | G#m |

Then, before the drum solo, play the B note fast, slide it down and mute it
(like the intro).

Hillsong version
The tempo for the Hillsong version is slightly faster (hence more difficult to play!). All the riffs are the same except that the bassist improvised the intro after the first chorus. The notes he added (before going into the second verse) are:

-14-14-13-13-14-14-16-16-
-------------------------
-------------------------
-------------------------

-14-14-13-13-14-14-13-13-
-------------------------
-------------------------
-------------------------

Great job! very helpful and you use your fingers no less!!! most impressive, but one small thing---it is a RIFF (2 F's)! a rift is a space between two things, like a canyon or being mad at a friend.

just thought i'd mention it

Hey guys, I believe the octave thingy sounds more like playing 14(B) on the bass string but u let go to 12(A) briefly for the sound.

Hmm yeah, but this is for the God He Reigns album. I believe it uses A instead of the octave.

just a couple nitpicky things,

the intro doesn't go to the octave but to A (14)

on the first line of the solo
-----16-------
--18----18-18-

both of these are base on the way matt plays it for the look to you cd

just to clarify, the tabs for the instrumental part is written in Bb. so if u wanna play it in the original key, just move everything in the instrumental part up one fret from whats written. great tab btw

Good job - one suggestion though. Practice with a metronome to work on your timing. You're rushing the beats and you get ahead of the music. Sorry to sound critical, but as a worship leader having a bass player who stays in beat is just as important as having a drummer that stays in beat. Later.

found a very good video on youtube of a bass player recording this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0Br1ldBPbE

helped me alot, very good quality, stays on time. also one small thing i noticed is that in the intro it isn't an octive being played, it's the 14th fret on the g string.

wow your really talented on the bass!!! You fingers are like going super speed! Well thanx for the tab =D .... its gonna take a long time for me to get it right

I believe the octave thing is actually a hammer on from the 14th fret to 16th.

A man's Replica Breguet Watches can say a abundant accord about him. You can usually acquaint if a man is sporty, all business or a little arbitrary just by searching at the alarm on his wrist. However, some of these accent pieces can be actual expensive, abnormally if they are allotment of a artist label.
