An Introduction

By Kenny & Gerald

This song uses alot of alternate picking, thus warm up your fingers, arms, and wrists before playing! Watch this (old) video to see what I mean (ignore the 2nd half):

While playing, your right hand should feel very relaxed. You should be straining to keep in tempo rather than to catch up with the tempo, so some practice is necessary to alternate pick comfortably.

Some practical tips:
- Pick with the utmost tip of your pick, & thus as quietly as possible.
- Use your wrist, not your arm, & minimise your movements as much as possible.
- Hold the pick at an angle to the strings.
- Practice ALOT.

If you really can't do it, pick half (i.e. alternate) the notes, & make up for the un-picked notes by using a delay pedal. Even if you can pick all the notes, it is recommended to use some delay still.

--------------

An Introduction is the instrumental prelude to the 1st proper song on the United We Stand album, The Time Has Come. It's often hard to find the tabs and especially chords for this instrumental so here are the chords and tabs.

you can check out how MGC plays it. if this link doesn't work. go to www.myspace.com/unitedguitars and click on videos. MGC shows you how to play it, and how to get the delay effect. its worth checking out.

hey nice work here, i'm in a bit of a jam, i know you used a wah, did you use an auto wah or a regular footpedal one? it's hard for me to emulate certain wah sounds on foot, so i'm planning on gettn an auto wah or envelope filter (whatever you want to call it) how would i get the sounds like that? i'm looking for a wah effect that isn't too bright and all over the place. also, any pedals you suggest?

Hey,
I prefer the regular footpedal because I may not wah over every single note.. for instance I may sweep the pedal over a few chords instead.

Pedal-wise i'm not too sure what is good, maybe you could try asking ard in the forum..

Hey, Can I make this sound (intro)with a GT-8 Boss Multi-efect Pedal??

user said...

I suppose you could.. i don't have the pedal though..

quick question, what's 6b7 mean? i never learned all the tabbing stuff, mostly just a few such as hammer-ons and slides.

It means that you have to bend the note on the 6th fret, such that it sounds like the note on the 7th fret.

Um, its nice but you could save a lot energy if you let the delay do all the work, lol, watch the video in www.myspace.com/unitedguitars, its on the blog and its named "U" i dont know why, but it sounds really awesome.

For the gt-8, set your delay to dotted 8th notes. The triplet delay is what makes the signature sound, but its really hard to do it without a delay effect. The video is just 8th notes i think, which is why it sounds a little off.

Kenny,, love your version,, but if you want to do the real version,, use a Boss FS-5U and a digital delay,, and it doesn't really use alot of alternate picking, in fact, it's all down strokes like Michael Guy Chislett says,, Like I said,, this version is very rad,,, anyways, God Bless,,,

yea but they use two DD-5's.. :/ but i found a good rig IF u have POD XT LIVE. i found a perfect rig. the rig is Amp MODEL 2001 Treadplate Dual, NO CABINET drive on 11o clock. Bass and Middle and Presence at 2 o clock. treble at 4 o clock. volume at 11 oclock. Stomp On SCREAMER all 50%. any EQ, Delay is on DIGITAL DELAY at 238ms or dot 8, Feed back 61% and everything else 50%. REVERB on dwel and tone 50% and mix on 27%. There you go :D

hi everyone i have been playing a very diifernet version to this one, and because the normal riff plays on top of the 3--
6b7,i always thought this might be a duet part, thats just what it sounds like to me anyway.
