Today is the Day Instrumental

... by Lincoln Brewster. I had to practice abt 2 hours to get it right!

Quickly jump to the D string:

A slighty easier part, to take a breather...

For this part, get your first finger ready to barre over the 12th fret. To do so, lower your wrist as you play the first three notes, your thumb should be behind the fretboard, and not near the low E string. For the rest of the notes, do quick upstrokes over the G+D and later the B+G strings so it sounds as if you're doing some rapid string skipping.

>> barre @ the 12th fret

Switch to the middle pickup after the first three notes:

For the last bend, release the bend halfway, but not to the point of bringing it back to the original note. Instead, bend again while halfway releasing, and finish the bend. For those who drive, its like releasing the brake slightly just before stopping, and then stepping down fully on the brake.

WOW. That is awesome. I hope one day I could go that fast!!!!! I tried to figure out the solo but about half way through the solo he starts going too fast for me so i just improvise the rest of the solo!! Then not only do you figure it out but then you tab it out!! It's beyond me (right now) Thank you for the tabs. Now i can find the right notes from your tabs and work on going faster.

Ei, Kenny! My 1st time to post, but I've been a long-time grateful reader & learner of your site & posts! Really inspired by the way you put together worship & techniques. Really appreciate, too, the newly added option of downloading a few of your latest vids! Hope it'll be possible for all of your vids, haha! May I also request for a tab & vid of Linc's version of "Salvation is Here", even if only in the interlude part (those fast high notes that followed the trademark intro riff, which he did an octave higher than the original) before his 2nd take on the 1st verse? My main purpose for this particular portion of the song is more of study: I'd just like to learn the scale that Linc used & how he used it so I could apply it in other songs.
Hope you'll have the time to accommodate my request, although I've a pretty good idea how busy it may get in a day for a music minister.
Do keep being Christ's vessel of honour, man! Your ministry has been such a blessing!

One of the toughest solos ive come across. The first part is pretty okay. The second half is tricky. Took me like 15 minutes to get the hang of the notes......but not the speed. Lol

God bless.

In the section you described as "A slighty easier part, to take a breather..." I think Lincoln uses the low E string, slightly higher up the neck. This gives the notes a different timbre which really makes the solo. Check it out on U-Tube.

Amazing playing on your part.

Can you post something like this for the runs on Salvation is Here?

Keep up the good work. God Bless.
