Techniques: Vibrato

Vibrato, as its name suggests, entails vibrating the string up-and-down. By doing these rapid, mini-bends, you cause the note's pitch to 'vibrate' up and down, creating a.... well watch the video for yourself:



In the video, i do a vibrato in slow-mo, followed by a more exaggerated one. An application follows:

Vibrating the note gives your playing more articulation, and more feel. Also, by hitting the vibrato-ed note with more force, you create a sudden and exciting feel to the passage.

While the vibratos i did are vertical ones, horizontal ones, where you vibrate your finger to the left and right, are used when you need more subtle vibratos (no video).
